A Grand Haven Tuesday

A Grand Haven Tuesday

I saw two babies laugh and play
In their Graco Pack and Play
All at the East End park that day.

Walked the East End Grand River Park
To watch the cat tails sway—
a stout wind blew—
So I meandered away.

Waters meet at mouth of Grand
I walked the pier where water meets land--
where Lake Michigan sculpts the singing sands.

Three Asian men fishing that Tuesday
One smiled and said to me, “We’re fishing.”
“Good luck I say.”

I raised my camera to capture
Sun light at play on the red beacon—
a Pakistani family nodded good day—
I nodded, too that evening in May.

Young couples walked by me hand in hand
As  I strolled near the red beacon light
And I looked back toward land.

Houses, cottages and my town lay
where people live and work and play
It’s a happy place to live or
 stay for a day.

Sunset Over Lake Michigan

I took this photo near the boardwalk along the Grand River that flows into Lake Michigan.  In the distance on the left is the lighthouse and beacon at the end of the pier.  We get lovely sunsets in Grand Haven, MI.

November on Lake Michigan

Powerful waves hit the Foghorn on Lake Michigan where the Grand River flows into it.  November is the month of huge waves and surfer dudes seem to like it but these waves can be dangerous.  The breakwater takes a beating and needs to be fixed.

Since most people have other navigation instruments on their boats, we don't hear the foghorn on foggy days any more unless someone sets it off.
