A Grand Haven Tuesday
I saw two babies
laugh and play
In their Graco Pack and
Play
All at the East End park that day.
Walked the East End Grand River Park
To watch the cat
tails sway—
a stout wind blew—
So I meandered away.
Waters meet at mouth
of Grand
I walked the pier where
water meets land--
where Lake Michigan sculpts the singing sands.
Three Asian men fishing
that Tuesday
One smiled and said
to me, “We’re fishing.”
“Good luck I say.”
I raised my camera to
capture
Sun light at play on the red beacon—
a Pakistani family
nodded good day—
I nodded, too that
evening in May.
Young couples walked
by me hand in hand
As I strolled near the red beacon light
And I looked back
toward land.
Houses, cottages and
my town lay
where people live and
work and play
It’s a happy place to
live or
stay for a day.
